How to Solve the Javascript Void(0) Problem

Many internet users face this problem when they try clicking a link and see this error code on the status bar of the browser which doesn't allow the link to work. It is actually an error message that occasionally appears in a web browser when you face a problem loading a JavaScript from a webpage. Though this error message pops up on various occasions but the actual reasons could be different for different users, and resolving these problems is necessary by knowing the most possible reasons for this error message.

1- The major cause of this error message is the Popup blocker blocking the JavaScript while stopping the windows which open up as the advertisements on various sites. Resolving this problem involves making changes in the preferences of the popup blocker based on your requirements and thus disabling the popup blocker. One can even download another anti popup software instead or can read the product reviews of popup blockers to assess if they really cause these error messages.

2- The malfunctioning of the web proxy servers (which are used for accessing the various banned websites) can also block the various scripts in the process. This problem can be avoided by not using the proxy server itself or using a proxy server that functions better and do not interfere in the downloading of various scripts. Also check for the compatibility of the proxy server with various web pages and scripts.
An improperly written JavaScript could also lead to this error message. The solution lies in notifying this error to the webmaster who in turn must rewrite the JavaScript.

How to Solve the Javascript Void(0) Problem

3- The JavaScript might be disabled in your browsers, and this needs to be enabled. To enable this in IE, go to scripting tab of the security option in the Tools menu under the internet options; and to enable this in Firefox, go to Tools menu and enable the JavaScript option in Web features.

4- Web browser implementation of JavaScript might also be broken in some cases, and this requires the switching or simply the up gradation of your web browser.

There is this simple way where you can really avoid "javascript:void(0)" error message at the first instance because we know that this "javascript:void(0)" can cause certain browsers to really present your web pages in unusual ways, and since the "javascript:void(0)" statement is often occurred when a link has no URL attached to it, and the browser doesn't understand how to react and returns the error message. So for this, instead use the "return false;" statement to let the browser not to look for the URL. Try opening the document in any text editor; Locate the "javascript:void(0)" references within the document, Replace the links with the (#) symbol with the syntax ".", Add the "return false" declaration to the statement that would make the whole link reference to appear as a Link. Replace the "callFunction()" with your function name; Save and close the file finally.

Getting an Error Loading Dll File Message? How to Fix and Get Rid of These Problems

Sometimes when starting the computer or opening a program, you might see an error message telling you that a dll mile is missing, has been removed, or can't be found. If nothing is done, these messages will keep popping up and parts of the program might not operate properly. How do you go about getting rid of error loading dll file messages?

Dll files or dynamic link library files are functions that your applications sometimes call upon to do certain tasks. For example, your word processor when it needs to print might call up the dll file to have the code to communicate with your printer. The idea is that this file is only used when needed as opposed to taking up space in your RAM. The computer using dll makes everything run faster. If you do get an error, there are a few solutions.

If you are getting the dll file error at startup, then you need to tell the computer to stop trying to access it. This can be done by going to START, RUN, then typing in MSCONFIG. Go to the startup tab and look for that dll file specifically and uncheck the box. This should remove the error when you start the machine up the next time. This sometimes happens when you remove a virus or program that used to start when the computer booted up but the dll file for some reason was still being told to run but was no longer there.

A quick and easy trick is to open your notepad program. Then save the file with the exact name of the dll. So if the name was XYZ.dll that's the name you would call it. Then save that file into C:\windows\ with the correct file name. This will make the computer think that the file is still there getting rid of the error message.

Those two messages take care of the problem but don't exactly solve the problem completely. There is a way of taking care of dll error messages with a software called a registry cleaner. It can take the errors at startup as well as any errors when opening programs and fix them. Sometimes these dll files are orphaned for one reason or another. A registry cleaner will be able to tell the computer to stop calling up these files if they are no longer needed. It can also help correct corruptions and errors in the registry to help the computer run faster.

Innovation - What a Consultant Will Not Tell You

Have you noticed how consultants and academics tend to turn innovation into a highly complex system involving numerous processes, approaches and models (requiring you to spend even more on consultants)?

Such systems are promoted by consultants who charge by the day for implementing and teaching their complex systems - which require many, many months to implement. Worse, consultants scare their clients into believing that not implementing the consultants' system will lead to failure. Indeed, when the system does fail, the consultant can easily blame the client for not implementing the complex system properly.

But, these consultants are wrong! Innovation need not be complex. In fact, complex systems actually stifle creativity and hence innovation. Most organisations contain many creative thinkers and innovators: their employees; and many external creative thinkers: their customers. All that they require is:

Innovation - What a Consultant Will Not Tell You

The ability to make people comfortable about sharing their ideas and to make mistakes without suffering any consequences. That management demonstrate their commitment and ability to be creative themselves. Budget - funds will be necessary, however they will be modest in comparison to the demands of the consultants! Tools for capturing and managing ideas, techniques for generating and shaping ideas and a method of measuring the fruits of your labours. Space and more importantly time to meet, share ideas or just think. Rewards, a fair system that rewards idea generation, knowledge sharing and team working.

How all of these components come together will vary from firm to firm. What is important is that these components exist, that there is flexibility and that ideas are implemented. Of course these components of corporate innovation are greatly simplified. Nevertheless, they provide the mainstay of an innovation plan.

So don't let the expensive consultants fool you. An innovation strategy is relatively easy provided you have the commitment, the desire and resources. It should fit your organisation with minimal disruption and you should not be left with a strong dependency on any outside organisation.

Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Part of the romanticism of entrepreneurship is the thought that entrepreneurs are creative, innovative, go-getters, risk takers, driven. All of that implies a high self-esteem and determination. In reality, having a clear understanding of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship allows managers of institutions and corporations, as well as individual, manage each area differently to get the best results.

People like creativity simply because it is fun. We reconnect with the pure pleasure of getting something that did not exist before. When we create we forget our problems, we are just being, the child comes out, we connect with ourselves and it simply feels good. Our energy pours from the inside to the outside and leaves our imprint, the object of our creation becomes an extended part of ourselves. Creativity also lives in a time and purpose vacuum. The worst enemy of creativity is a good idea.

People like innovation because it implies progress. When we innovate, we have a structure. Innovation becomes change. To change we need the reference, the constraints, the structure, the present, what is there. When we do things differently, we are also creating, but we create with a purpose, fun stops until we reach our goal. Thus, innovation has less power as a self-expression than creativity.

Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Then we come to the field of entrepreneurship, one of my favorite topics. Entrepreneurship is more about creating wealth than it is about creating a company. It is closely linked to creativity, entrepreneurs MUST have something NEW to offer. It is related to innovation, entrepreneurs MUST find new ways of getting in the market, making something new, doing things differently.

When we check most new businesses, they are me-too's, and most so-called entrepreneurs are people who have bought themselves a job. They don't create, innovate or add wealth. They shift what exists to a different person.

Entrepreneurship then is the process of exploring how to add value to others in a new or different way. Entrepreneurs capture that value in the form of wealth, and then that wealth with others: clients, users, employees, suppliers, community, governments, etc. To understand that being creative and being innovative is not enough and to be aware that there is a maximized value waiting to be discovered or created, is what entrepreneurs do best when they plan, then they take action, and finally, they evolve.

It is not a matter of luck as most people link entrepreneurship with creativity and innovation. If you don't have anything, you create. If you have an unwanted present, you innovate. If you want to create wealth, you give that creation or innovation, the best chance. You don't need money to create wealth, you need creativity and innovation.

It is by thinking and taking action, by consciously discovering where the creations or innovations have the highest perceived value that entrepreneurs build their wealth... and by doing so, create prosperity beyond themselves. It is not about becoming rich but building wealth.

Without the notion of creating wealth, creativity and innovation can't find a place in the market. To be able to distinguish where the highest value is, who is the ideal customer or client is to bring prosperity to our communities, and to act upon that thought, is what entrepreneurs thrive at.

There are many tools and methods that capture how entrepreneurs create wealth. It is not an art, or a science. It is the conscious effort of making the best of a product or a service, to find those who value it best, and capture that value, what lies inside the entrepreneur.

Creating wealth escapes the obvious, and creates new valued propositions. Sometimes we use innovation to improve what is there, but most likely, the best results come from a free, playful, fun exercise of creating wealth. Whatever you do to create wealth will improve your skills and build up that wealthing muscle. Even if you compose a song in tribute to your wealth when you are showering!

Why Innovation is Important in Marketing

Marketing is a way companies use to sell a product, idea or service to their consumers. Being innovative in marketing can help you set a new high bar for your competition. Sometimes your competition will fail to reach these new standards. Finding new ways to get the job done or tweaking existing ways, can increase companies revenue and make your marketing team more efficient. Apple's new marketing strategy focusing more on their current consumer base worked really well. Apple increased their R&D and came with new products that would make their consumer base happy. With products such as I phone and I touch not only was the base happy, but their base grew dramatically with new consumers thus increasing the market share of Apple, Inc. in the industry.

Companies like Google, Inc. have one the most innovative marketing team in the world. Google has the most powerful search engine in the world and their marketing team saw niche on online advertisement and took advantage of the situation. Today of over 98% of Google's revenue is generated from online advertisement. Google is ranked the most innovative company in the world. The reason is that Google employees have one of most relaxed work environment and they get free time to work on project that they feel will improve their company. You can't be the leader of innovation with only your marketing team doing the innovating. That's why Google and GE make it a top priority to put innovation in their employee's blood.

In today's global economy where competition is coming from all over the world and where companies are struggling to survive due to the global recession, marketing teams all over the world are scratching their heads to come up with new or different innovative ways to reach their consumers and try to get a small piece of the everyday shrinking pie. American companies have the reputation of being the most innovative companies in the world. But with a dramatic increase of good quality education throughout the world there is a risk that America will lose its title of being the most innovative country in the world. But we are not ready to give up just yet. The new idea that Professor Felix and his team are working on is a huge step in the right direction. By creating a social website and hopefully a new class at GRCC and other colleges throughout United States on how managers, marketers and other businessman can be more innovative will keep this nation at the top of the most innovative countries in the world.

Promotion "Above the Line" and "Below the Line"

Promotion can be loosely classified as "above the line" and "below the line" promotion. The promotional activities carried out through mass media like television, radio, newspaper etc. is above the line promotion.

The terms 'below-the-line' promotion or communications, refers to forms of non-media communication, even non-media advertising. Below-the-line promotions are becoming increasingly important within the communications mix of many companies, not only those involved in fmcg products, but also for industrial goods.

Some of the ways by which companies do BTL (below the line) promotions are by exhibitions, sponsorship activities, public relations and sales promotions like giving freebies with goods, trade discounts given to dealers and customers, reduced price offers on products, giving coupons which can be redeemed later etc.

Promotion "Above the Line" and "Below the Line"

BELOW THE LINE SALES PROMOTION

Below the line sales promotions are short-term incentives, largely aimed at consumers. With the increasing pressure on the marketing team to achieve communication objectives more efficiently in a limited budget, there has been a need to find out more effective and cost efficient ways to communicate with the target markets. This has led to a shift from the regular media based advertising.

A definition of below-the-line sales promotion given by Hugh Davidson:

'An immediate or delayed incentive to purchase, expressed in cash or in kind, and having only a short term or temporary duration'.

Methods of below the line sales promotion

1. Price promotions

Price promotions are also commonly known as" price discounting". These can be done in two ways:

(1) A discount to the normal selling price of a product, or

(2) More of the product at the normal price.

Price promotions however can also have a negative effect by spoiling the brand reputation or just a temporary sales boost (during the discounts) followed by a lull when the discount would be called off.

2. Coupons

Coupons are another, very versatile, way of offering a discount. Consider the following examples of the use of coupons:

- On a pack to encourage repeat purchase

- In coupon books sent out in newspapers allowing customers to redeem the coupon at a retailer

- A cut-out coupon as part of an advert

- On the back of till receipts

The key objective with a coupon promotion is to maximize the redemption rate - this is the proportion of customers actually using the coupon.

It must be ensured when a company uses coupons that the retailers must hold sufficient stock to avoid customer disappointment.

Use of coupon promotions is often best for new products or perhaps to encourage sales of existing products that are slowing down.

3. Gift with purchase

The "gift with purchase" is a very common promotional technique. In this scheme, the customer gets something extra along with the normal good purchased. It works best for

- Subscription-based products (e.g. magazines)
- Consumer luxuries (e.g. perfumes)

4. Competitions and prizes

This is an important tool to increase brand awareness amongst the target consumer. It can be used to boost up sales for temporary period and ensure usage amongst first time users.

5. Money refunds

Here, a customer receives a money refund after submitting a proof of purchase to the manufacturer.
Customers often view these schemes with some suspicion - particularly if the method of obtaining a refund looks unusual or onerous.

6. Frequent user / loyalty incentives

Repeat purchases may be stimulated by frequent user incentives. Perhaps the best examples of this are the many frequent flyer or user schemes used by airlines, train companies, car hire companies etc.

7. Point-of-sale displays

Shopping habits are changing for the people living in metropolitan cities. People prefer big retail outlets like Big Bazaar to local kirana stores. Most of the decisions of buying are taken by the virtue of point-of-sale displays in these retail outlets.

SOME INTERSTING EXAMPLES OF BTL PROMOTION

Most of the big brands are following the suit of BTL promotion because of rising prices of media based promotion, advertising clutter and increased impulse purchasing.

Some of the interesting examples are:

Most of the educational institutes like career launcher, Time and PT are holding informative workshops and free tests for students which give a direct interaction of these institutes with the target customer and hence a suitable platform to sell themselves.

Ring tones and music videos on cell phones are helping the entertainment industry to promote for a music video or a movie for dirt-cheap rate as compared to media promotion.

Various companies sponsor sport events to promote their brand, but nowadays media companies like Hindustan Times are holding weekly events through out the country in which companies can put up their stalls, display banners and posters and arrange for some fun activities. These events give the companies a platform at very low price to promote their brand and increase visibility among target consumer. These companies also give discount coupons to winners in the games, which in turn boost the sales of the products and ensure that first time users try these products as well.

Pepsi organized an inter school cricket event for 425 schools across 14 cities which did wonders for the company by promoting the brand amongst the right target customer for almost no cost.

Most of the pharmacy companies do BTL promotion by getting shelf space through doctors to display their products or by giving away free calcium tablets again through doctors, knowing that for a patient a personal advise from a doctor would hold more value as compared to a commercial advertisement.

Another interesting BTL promotion was by NIKE, an athlete dressed up in Nike sportswear could be seen jogging on an elevated treadmill for the whole day on National Highway 8, Delhi.

BTL promotions are gaining popularity among all big companies nowadays considering their effectiveness because of the "individual customer promotion" at a price, which is much lesser than the normal media promotions.
